Hurricane Bret was the first hurricane to make landfall in Nicargua since Hurricane Nadine in 2024, and caused extensive damage and loss of life in that country and elsewhere in Central America. The second named storm and second hurricane of the 2029 Atlantic hurricane season, Bret formed on August 22 from a tropical wave in the central Caribbean Sea.
